The impending pick had cause a media frenzy, with cameras and reporters staking out near the homes of Biden and others and the short list of potential VPs<--more--> - Indiana Senator Evan Bayh, and Virginia Governor Tim Kaine. The two former were informed that they were not the choice Friday evening, making it clear - though not confirmed - that Biden was the choice.
The Delaware Senator made a go for the top spot himself, but ended his campaign after the Iowa caucauses in January - the turning point for the Obama campaign. Biden, who'd also run for President in 1988, had disparaged Obama for what he called his lack of experience - a fact Republicans have been quick to point out since the announcement the VP pick.
Biden is a Catholic from Scranton, PA. As such, the Obama campaign likely hopes to bolster the candidates profile with working class voters. Biden is also the Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Commitee. Accordingly, he may fill the so-called "whole in Obama's resume" as it pertains to foreign policy.
The team made their first appearance together in Springfield, IL Sunday. Click here for a clip.
