Usher's 'Here I Stand' Suffers Mass Illegal Downloads
Posted May 29, 2008
R&B superstar Usher's new album Here I Stand was reportedly illegally downloaded more than half a million times before its May 27 release. The online song jacking has cost the star (and all associated songwriters and producers) a significant amount of money in royalties.
Here I Stand appeared online in its entirety a week before it was officially launched, and internet programs managed to track the number of times it was downloaded, reports CMU Music. The album and individual leaked tracks were downloaded a total of 554,716 times via BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer file sharing application, alone.
Usher has been often in the media of late, of course promoting the new album, but also fiercely defending his marriage, which has been rumored to be in shambles.
"The swagger I possess now definitely comes from my wife," Usher says in the July issue of Vibe. "And my son completes me. He changes my perspective on what life is, and what matters. … These are the days of my son's life, these first three years. I want to be there. The challenge is having it all."
