Rap mogul Jay-Z is set to represent the New Jersey Nets today at the NBA Draft Lottery in Secaucus, NJ. As part owner of the team, Jay-Z - real name Shawn Carter - will be one of fourteen team reps on stage as NBA Deputy Commissioner Adam Sliver announces the order in which teams will pick their new players.
Jay said in a statement that his participation in the draft lottery is “very exciting” and that he hopes his nickname ‘Lucky Lefty’ “holds up,” according to Vibe.com.
Calculations based on their 2007-2008 season record dictate that the Nets have a slim 1.1 percent chance of getting the first pick of the draft and less than a four percent chance of choosing one of the top three selections.
The NBA Draft Lottery will be televised live on ESPN tonight from 8 p.m. EST, just before Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Boston Celtics and the Detroit Pistons. The draft itself will be held on June 26.
